Fabric for one pair

You’ll need ¼ yard each of main fabric, lining and batting, based on a fabric width of at least 44″ / 112 cm. This includes fabric for the two ties.

Choose lightweight to medium-weight outer fabric, such as corduroy. For the lining, use quilting cotton or another lining fabric that is not too thick. The guide includes cotton and polyester batting options.

You’ll also need a sewing machine, matching thread, a hand-sewing needle, scissors, pins or clips, an iron, a water-soluble fabric marker and an awl for marking the paper pattern. Make matching fabric ties or use ready-made ribbon.

Download & print

Use the same PDF for US Letter or A4 paper. You only need to print pattern pages 5–7; keep the photo instructions open on your phone, tablet or computer.

  1. Print page 5 first at 100% / Actual Size, in portrait orientation. Select the paper size loaded in your printer and center the page. Turn off Fit to Page, Shrink and other scaling options.
  2. Measure both the 1-inch and 1-cm test squares with a ruler. Print pages 6–7 only after the scale is correct.
  3. Join Upper A and Upper B along the marked lines before cutting the fabric. The ¼-inch seam allowance is already included.

Questions & answers

What sewing techniques will I use?

You’ll sew fabric and batting, stitch curved seams, turn the boots right side out, and close a small opening by hand. The photo guide walks you through all 16 steps.

Do I need to make the ties myself?

No. The guide shows how to make fabric ties, but ready-made ribbon is an option too. Each tie is stitched to the back of the boot.

Are these the same as the Baby Booties pattern?

No. Cozy Baby Shoes is a separate design with a taller upper and ties attached at the back. Use the pattern pieces, measurements and instructions in this PDF.

May I sell the shoes I make?

Yes. Small-scale sales of finished handmade items are allowed. Please do not copy, share, distribute or resell the PDF, pattern pieces, instructions or photographs.
