Choose the size from the baby’s measurements rather than age alone. Measure without a diaper: the pattern already allows room for one.

Quilting cotton or linen works well. You’ll need narrow 1/4-inch elastic for the legs and 1/2-inch elastic for the waist.

Have a sewing machine, matching thread, scissors, pins, a safety pin and an iron ready. Check your chosen size and lay out the pieces before cutting.

2. Print the first pattern page and measure the labeled test squares before printing and cutting the remaining pieces.

Will the bloomers fit over a diaper?

The pattern includes room for a diaper and movement. Follow the PDF’s measuring instructions and take the baby’s measurements without a diaper.

What sewing techniques will I use?

You’ll sew simple seams, finish the ruffle edge, make elastic casings and thread the elastic through them. The guide shows the construction with photos.
